Yamaha FZ :
Hi friends, I am Ganesh, I became a proud owner of the Yamaha FZS in May 2009 and I have done around 6000 Kms. This bike has been reviewed many times on this site and most of them dealt with the technical specifications and the stunning looks of the bike, so I will constrain myself from doing so.
My cousin owns anApache RTR, which is the first powerful bike that I used extensively when he was off to Bangalore for his 6 months of training. When my cousin returned it was time to choose my new ride. I had not thought of any other bike apart from Apache till then. So I did some research, took test drives and all. The verdict – The Apache wins hands down, when it comes to performance and value for money. TVS had even added rear disk brake to make the offer even more menacing. But, surprise surprise! My heart persuaded me to go for the FZ (NO, not because of its LOOKS), and I obeyed.
So what made me buy the FZ even though it lost to the it lost to the Apache on the paper both performance and mileage wise?? LOTS of things!! First let’s make one thing clear, this bike has much much more to it than just looks. This bike is not a Jack of all trades. It is designed to do specific things and it does those specific things like no other bike in the market.
The FZ is Designed to:
- Attract people – it does that with ease
- This bike is built for the city. Now let us understand what this means. Now this bike is said to have a lot of low and mid range Torque. All that torque is provided mainly for city riding, Now that torque isn’t quite needed for highway riding and racing mainly because you do not vary your speed as often as you do so for city riding. This clearly means that FZ is at its best, when you use it for city riding and not for racing or touring.
- Now what does else does city riding involve? A lot of twisting and turning of the bike. That is exactly why this bike has been provided with best gripping and the best looking rear tyre combined with monocross suspension at the rear and a flat, wide handle bar at the front. No the tyre is not there for looks alone. It is infact one of the best features provided in the bike. Twisting and turning through the traffic is lot easier if the weight of the bike is less and the wheelbase is optimum. I think FZ has the best of these two among the bikes falling under its category and price range
- Headlight – Now this is a prime example which proves this bike is built mainly for the city. The headlight is really good for the narrow (compared to the highways) and moderately lit city roads but it isn’t good enough for the Highways, the light just spreads too much for anybody’s liking.
BRAKES: Anyone who complains about Yamaha not providing a rear disk brake for this bike will take their words back once they brake this bike really hard in a really tight situation. This bike has the best set of brakes among the bikes in its category. It might not hold the record for the 60-0, but take my word for it, if you fall or skid due to hard braking in this bike, then you will meet the same fate or worse in any other bike during that situation. I am not suggesting that the rear disk brake is not needed, but only insisting that with its build and chassis, the brakes provided are sufficient.
TYRES: We have to appreciate Yamaha for introducing the sticky compound tyres to the Indian market. The bike boasts one of the best tyres around. These tyres look and function really well. Now even the bigger Pulsars have the same kind of tyres.
MERITS: All the above mentioned points come under the merit list of the bike. You want more?
- It is the only bike in its segment to boast a completely digital display
- It is the best looking 150-160cc bike around
- Unlike Pulsars it provides the much needed exclusivity
- Trust Yamaha, they wont be upgrading this bike every 6 months – 1 year
- The most refined engine, second only to Unicorn in its category.
- Awesome Roadgrip.
- Less maintanence charges compared to Pulsar.
- The pride of owning a toned down version of the international FZ series.
- It probably has the best self starter in the country, never had to press it more than twice, even during the monsoons.
DEMERITS: Every bike in the market has its set of demerits. FZ has some too.
In a bid to reduce the weight of the bike, Yamaha gave this bike few problems
- Weak Rims – The rims are not strong enough for rash driving in Indian roads. If your riding at speed greater than 75Kms/hr and go through a nasty bump on the road, be assured that your rims are bent.
- Weak front forks – This bike claims to have the widest front forks, it might very well be the weakest too. Don’t be surprised if you end up with a bent fork after a nasty crash with a cycle.
- Mileage – Well I get a mileage of around 43 – 45 Kms/lit from my FZ, while I got 45 – 47 Kms/lit from Apache. The point to note here is that I never rip my FZ, while I mostly rip my Apache.
- Do not depend on the bike’s fuel meter, its just there for name sake, it has shown me one bar even when the tank is empty.
Want to convert most demerits into merit of FZ? Just think that FZ persuades you to drive more responsibly, without attempting many risks…
For all the Prospective buyers of FZ, the other Bikes that you might want to consider are
- TVS Apache RTR 180
- Bajaj Pulsar 220 S
So now I’ll answer why I chose FZ rather than Apache. The Apache is the kind of bike that you will love to rip and reach the 3 digit mark in the speedometer, something that can be done in open roads and race tracks.
FZ is a bike which you would love to ride through the city traffic, you would love it even more when you see bigger bikes struggle in the city traffic while you just glide through. I find myself in the latter most of the times. So the FZ S was the bike for me.

PlayStation Blog : Japanese electronics giant Sony has assured millions of users a system bug that had been halting play on older versions of the PlayStation 3 was “resolved”.
The company has “verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally,” Sony spokesman Patrick Seybold wrote on the PlayStation website.
Earlier, Sony indicated that the problem, which left many PS3 owners unable to connect to the internet for more than a day and some unable to even play games, was only affecting models released before last year.
“We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model recognised the year 2010 as a leap year,” Mr Seybold said.
“If the time displayed on the XMB is still incorrect, users are able to adjust time settings manually or via the internet.
“If we have new information, we will update you through the PlayStation blog or PlayStation.com,” he added.

hattie mcdaniel : When Hattie McDaniel, first African American ever nominated for an Academy Award, and arrived at the Ambassador Hotel to attend the ceremony in 1940, and was sitting on a table it on the sidelines of extreme of the hall. In the 61-year period 1940-2001, only five other African-Americans Sidney Poitier, Lou Gossett, Denzel Washington, Whoopi Goldberg and Cuba Gooding (we can put an asterisk next to this one?), Won the distinguished gold statue in the categories of acting awards. Of these six awards, Sydney Poitier is the only one who won in the category of Best Actor for his role in the lilies of the field (1963); all others in support roles.
So when Eddie Murphy and stood for the prize for best film at the awards ceremony for the year 1988, the troubled history of racial Hollywood is in sight. Murphy, the comedian who was a political figure in general, and decided that the inconsistencies in his presence at the ceremony, a senior in 1988, against a non-recognition of African Americans in Hollywood, historically, it was just an insult to the very ignored. Well, I have changed much since Eddie Murphy and decided to get in Hollywood’s collective ass, and since the man cannon Adderley, once anointed as the “preacher” of the country resulted in his 1996 protest. Starting from 2002, Hollywood has been a lot more generous in recognition of African Americans. Denzel Washington and Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx and Morgan Freeman, Forest Whitaker and Jennifer Hudson won all the awards since then. Of these six, but Freeman and Hudson were in the best support groups, and the rest on the best actor and best actress.
Other milestones include the Sidney Poitier will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002 and Chris Rock to host the broadcast in 2005, joining Whoopi Goldberg and Richard Pryor and other African Americans just to rock the mic and MC the program over the years.
Perhaps the most surprising at the same time and the moment the most pleasing to note that, since 2002 involved watching Three 6 Mafia won an Oscar for best song in 2006. Not since Isaac Hayes wore a protective vest and chains during his own Oscar-winning song “Shaft” Back in the early ’70s has been the scene of the Academy Awards such as this is true outside of the chain performance. In many respects, it is unlikely the success of Three 6 Mafia victory for the song entitled “It’s hard out here for a pimp,” showed that 10 short years a lot has changed since Jackson had decided to protest against this event. In other words, some might say that the Three 6 Mafia can win singing about existential conflicts inherent in the pimp game, and perhaps after a long period in Hollywood’s past may eventually create a more level playing field for African Americans.

Brancheau called the death “appalling” With regard to Seaworld facilities, “said Entertainment Tonight” I think they should just shut them all down. I was not a fan of places like this. ”
Personally, I agree with Damon. I always hate to see animals locked up in a small fake habitats in zoos. They seem so miserable, and even mentally unstable. I went to Seaworld once when he was a child, and I’ll never forget how the whales’ dorsal fins and drooped to one side (unlike many of their counterparts on land). As a child, I understood intuitively that the animals must be suffering to be held in captivity. As an adult, and I choose not to go to these places.
What do you think? It should be shut down Seaworld?

kentucky state flag : If you do everything right, and this is one of several blogs I have written in advance and one of my last session of the Winter Olympic Games in 2010. In this task, and we are preparing several functions in the development of a draft prior to publication. I am currently sitting in a semi-game of basketball and the state is counting on winning (confidence).
This challengs the past few weeks was to discover groups of the map on the Internet. Map-mentioned groups to meet this challenge is the American Memory Collection at the Library of Congress, and David Ramsey library, and Perry – Castanada Library Map Collection.
I chose to see what we can find in Ohio County, Kentucky since the plan for a research trip there in March and I thought it might help me in preparing my own.
Here are my results:
Results were not there. How about that! I did not find anything on any of the sites that cenetered on Ohio County, Kentucky. Well, not quite. I did not get as I moved to Kentucky Geological Survey University of Kentucky site where I did not find a written report on groundwater resources in the province. I know that the oldest rocks (Mississippian) deposited years ago, 350 million, which is the highest height of 800 feet, that 90% of the population using public water and that groundwater is difficult to very difficult. Very interesting, but none of that will help me in my journey of research.
However, we’re going to the Kentucky state archives next week and I’m sure that my mother will reveal only the maps that we will need for our trip to Ohio County later this month. I have learned a lot from all the challenges, and this one was challenging, and the only one who did not meet my needs at this moment. I will not, however, do not give up on this one, and I am sure they will reconsider at another time when there are other maps I am trying.

Marie Osmond’s son, Michael, died Friday in Los Angeles after he jumped to his death from his apartment. He left a note as described below, saying he planned to commit suicide after a life long battle with depression.
Michael had struggled with depression and in 2007, at the age of 16 years, he went to rehab for undisclosed reasons.
Mary in March 2009 in an interview to People magazine, saying he was out of rehabilitation and better,
“Such things are in fact very difficult for a teenager to deal with,” she tells people. “And if at any time he wants to talk about that … and he said it would be, but it must be selected. It’s not my choice.”
Now out of rehab, and Michael Blosil be completed by office last year of high school, while living with his mother in Las Vegas (where the title and his brother Donny to show in the Flamingo). “I could not be more proud of him,” says Osmond. “He’s got an average of 3.9 in high school. He was looking at scholarships to some colleges are wonderful.”
Mary and her husband, Brian Blosil split in 2007 after 20 years of marriage and eight children, five of them (including Michael) had been adopted.
