Basilica Block Party kicks Off Tonight
The holiest rock concert of the summer kicks off today at the Basilica of St. Mary’s in Minneapolis.
In its 15th year, the Basilica Block Party is an annual three-day music festival held on the grounds of the historic Basilica in downtown Minneapolis. Organizers expect huge crowds this year, in excess of 20,000 people, thanks to a musical lineup that includes a reunion of the original Jayhawks, local favorites The Hold Steady, The Counting Crows and Black Crowes. Also on the lineup are local indie-folk rockers Romantica and barroom favorite Tim Mahoney.
The Block Party functions as a fundraiser for the Basilica of St. Mary’s, a unique way for the church to try and meet its financial goals for the year.
KARE-11 and Metromix.com will be at the Basilica all weekend long, brining you photos, videos and backstage interviews with the bands.
